Federal Ministry of Education Approves IUTH College of Nursing Sciences

The Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital (IUTH), Okada, Edo State, has recorded another major milestone as the Federal Ministry of Education has formally approved the establishment of its College of Nursing Sciences.

The official approval was conveyed in a letter signed by the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Professor Idris Bugaje, and addressed to the management of IUTH. The letter confirms the Federal Government’s endorsement of the College of Nursing Sciences, which will now operate with full accreditation under national regulations.

The newly approved Igbinedion College of Nursing Sciences is an upgrade and transition from the School of Nursing, Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital, Okada, which has been in operation since 2003.

Over the past two decades, the institution has successfully trained and graduated hundreds of competent nursing professionals, many of whom are excelling and making notable contributions in healthcare institutions across the globe.

Receiving the letter of approval personally at the National Headquarters of the NBTE in Kaduna State on Thursday with excitement, the Chief Medical Director of Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Ya’u Abubakar Gagarawa, expressed his profound gratitude to the Honourable Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa and the leadership of the NBTE for their support and confidence in the institution.

In his remarks, Dr. Gagarawa described the approval as “a significant achievement that reflects the hospital’s unwavering commitment to advancing healthcare education and producing a new generation of well-trained, globally competitive nursing professionals.

“This milestone is not just a win for IUTH, but for healthcare delivery in Nigeria. We are grateful to all stakeholders who played a role in making this dream a reality,” he added.

The IUTH College of Nursing Sciences now runs a comprehensive four-year programme culminating in the award of a National Diploma in Nursing Science to successful graduates.

This development marks a new chapter in IUTH’s pursuit of academic and professional excellence, positioning the College of Nursing Sciences, Okada, as a hub for high-quality nursing education in the South-South region and beyond.
