Okada, Nigeria – March 25, 2025
In a significant move to enhance staff welfare, the management of Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital (IUTH), Okada, has commenced discussions with relevant stakeholders on the introduction of a group insurance scheme for its employees.

The initiative is designed to provide comprehensive coverage, including health, life, and accident insurance, offering financial protection and peace of mind to staff members.
As part of this effort, a team from Orange Insurance Brokers Limited made a presentation on the proposed insurance scheme during the Hospital Management Committee (HMC) meeting held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
The presentation detailed the scope, benefits, and implementation framework of the plan. Members of the HMC actively engaged the insurance team, asking questions and receiving necessary clarifications.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of IUTH, Dr. Ya’u AbubakarGagarawa, expressed excitement about the presentation and commended the insurance brokers for their detailed proposal. He assured them that he would use his good offices to liaise with them and other key stakeholders to reach a final decision on the scheme.
“This initiative reflects our dedication to the well-being of our staff, who are the backbone of the institution. We understand the risks associated with the healthcare profession and the need for a structured insurance plan to cushion any unforeseen circumstances,” the CMD stated.
The hospital management is currently finalizing discussions with Orange Insurance Brokers Limited to ensure the best possible coverage options for employees across different cadres. The details of the scheme, including eligibility criteria, premium rates, and benefits, will be formally unveiled in the coming weeks.
Staff members have welcomed the development, describing it as a much-needed intervention. A senior medical officer at the hospital remarked, “This is a great step forward. Many of us have faced medical challenges without adequate financial backing.
A group insurance scheme will go a long way in providing a safety net.”With ongoing stakeholder engagements and the hospital’s strong commitment to staff welfare, the proposed insurance plan is expected to provide long-term security for employees, reinforcing IUTH’s position as a leading healthcare institution in Nigeria.
